Here at CentricsIT, we are your IT experts. When any IT maintenance issue arises in your data center, we are here to help. If there is an error code you can’t fix, let us assist you in our monthly FixIT column. This month, we’re focusing on the Sun error:
VOLTAGE_SENSOR @ MB.BAT.V_BAT has exceeded low warning threshold
The Sun error code indicates an issue with battery maintenance. This error may point toward a failing NVRAM or time-of-day battery on the motherboard or service processor.
- When NVRAM is failing, it typically means the computer hardware isn’t retaining all of the necessary settings, even though the default BIOS settings remain. Because the BIOS relies on the settings stored in NVRAM, performance may be lacking in stability.
- If the embedded battery in the NVRAM chip fails, this may indicate that the computer’s system clock has or will stop running, leaving important system configurations to go unmaintained.
This error code will usually show up with older V240/T2000 systems. Even though this error is a quick fix, it can often be mistaken for a faulty motherboard. If this error code appears, follow the steps below first to confirm there is not an issue with the motherboard.
- Shut down the server
- Remove the power source
- Remove the top cover
- Locate the small watch-type battery on the motherboard or service processor card
- Replace with new battery
- Plug server back in and power on
This should resolve the error code issue. If the error code still remains after following the steps above, this can indicate an issue with the motherboard. If you have any further questions about this error, contact our dedicated IT support staff by calling us toll free at 1 (877) 531-7466.
