We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all data centers are created equal, that they are endowed by their administrators with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Maintenance, Extended Life, and the pursuit of Unified Support Contracts.
That to secure these rights, maintenance providers are instituted among data centers, deriving their just powers from upkeep of the data center, that whenever any OEM maintenance provider becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the data center administrators to alter or to abolish it, and to institute third party maintenance, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their service levels and cost savings.
Prudence indeed will dictate that OEMs long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly, all experience hath shewn, that data center administrators are more disposed to spend up to 70% of precious IT budget, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.
But when a long train of price increases and mandated upgrades, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such OEM, and to provide new third-party maintenance for their future data center support. Such has been the patient sufferance of these server rooms; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former OEM maintenance and support contracts.
- The history of the present original equipment manufacturers is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these data centers. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.
- OEMs have increased pricing of maintenance contracts for equipment that has decreased in value.
- OEMs have stopped supporting equipment that works perfectly fine, leaving data center administrators no choice but to upgrade.
- OEMs will not answer the phone at 3:00 am nor respond in a timely fashion, creating chaos and dreaded downtime.
We, therefore, the data center administrators of the world, do, in the Name, and by the Authority of the Good People of the IT industry, solemnly publish and declare, that these data centers are, and of right ought to be free from oppressive and costly OEM maintenance contracts; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the OEM, and that all connection between them and data centers with perfectly working older equipment, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as independently maintained data centers, they have full power to take advantage of 24/7 standard phone support, unify all maintenance contracts under one umbrella provider, speak with a technician within 30 minutes of trouble ticket submission, receive parts needed within four hours, amend contracts as needed without penalty, and to do all other acts and things which independently maintained data centers may of right do.
And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine support, we mutually pledge to extend the life of every machine in our data centers, save fortunes, and protect our sacred peace of mind.
