IT Asset Disposition Provider Providing Free Pickups throughout April for Consumer E-Waste
ATLANTA, Apr. 16, 2024 – CentricsIT, an IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) provider with more than 17 years of experience serving global enterprises, is offering free e-waste pickups throughout the month of April in celebration of Earth Day. During the month of April, businesses can use an online form to schedule a day to pick up employees’ e-waste at no cost. CentricsIT will be utilizing its recycling network to accept and recycle all used electronics and devices according to R2 standards.
According to the UN’s Global E-waste Monitor published last month, e-waste is being generated five times faster than documented e-waste recycling. In 2022, more than 68 million tons of e-waste were generated globally. Less than a quarter of that e-waste was recycled.
“Enterprises often know what to do with their e-waste because of the amount produced and the regulations they are governed by,” said Sean Craig, VP of Enterprise ITAD Services at CentricsIT. “The Average consumer has fewer devices, and the equipment is often less valuable, so less recycling programs are willing to take it.”
For consumers, finding an e-waste program that accepts and recycles consumer electronics can be difficult. The result is consumers being unable to dispose of their devices properly. Not only does this e-waste fill up landfills, it pollutes soil and groundwater with hazardous substances, including lead and mercury. The lack of e-waste programs for consumer waste is also incredibly wasteful. In 2022, $62 billion was lost in e-waste components—including gold and platinum. E-waste production is set to rise to more than 90 million tons by 2030.
