- Innovative Architectural Flexibility
- Infrastructure Simplicity
- Business Agility
How We See IT:
The Cisco Nexus 5548UP switch is the first of the Cisco Nexus 5500 Series portfolio. Using cut-through architecture, the Cisco Nexus N5K 5548UP-FA is one-rack-unit (1RU) that supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet on all ports, while maintaining consistently low latency independent of packet size and services enabled. It also supports a set of network technologies collectively known as Data Center Bridging (DCB). DCB increases the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of Ethernet networks. As a result, the switches are able to support multiple traffic classes over a lossless Ethernet fabric, while enabling consolidation of LAN, SAN, and cluster environments. The switch’s ability to connect Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) to native Fiber Channel, offering up to 960 Gbps of throughput and up to 48 ports, protects existing storage system investments while dramatically simplifying in-rack cabling.
For conventional, virtualized, integrated, and high-performance computing environments, Cisco N5K 5548UP-FA offers a long list of IT and business related advantages. The Cisco Nexus 5548UP Switches deliver innovative architectural flexibility, infrastructure simplicity, and business agility, with support for networking standards.
Innovative Architectural Flexibility
The Cisco Nexus 5000 Series portfolio, which includes Cisco N5K 5548UP-FA, provides the flexibility to connect directly to servers using 10GBASE-T connections or fiber with Enhanced Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP+) transceivers. The switch series is designed for a broad range of physical, virtual, storage access, and high-performance computing environments, by offering low latency, rear-facing data ports, and a front-to-back cooling system. This gives customers flexibility to meet and scale their data center requirements gradually, while keeping up with their business objectives.
Infrastructure Simplicity
Cisco N5K 5548UP-FA is designed for data center environments with cut-through technology that enables consistent low-latency Ethernet solutions. Its front-to-back or back-to-front cooling system and rear-located data ports bring the switches into close proximity with servers and make cable runs short and easy. Cisco N5K 5548UP-FA is highly serviceable, with redundant fan modules and hot-pluggable power supplies. To ensure high reliability and ease of management, the switch uses data center-class Cisco NX-OS Software.
Business Agility
Today’s data centers are increasingly filled with dense rack-mount and blade servers that are able to host powerful multi-core processors. Cisco N5K 5548UP-FA is an excellent match for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and consolidated I/O applications. Therefore, with in-rack computing density and use of virtualization software’s rapid increase, the demand for Cisco Nexus 5000 series switches continues to rise.
The Cisco Nexus 5000 Series is also able to integrate with multifunction adapters called converged network adapters (CNAs). These adapters combine the functions of Ethernet NICs and Fiber Channel host bus adapters, making the transition to a single, integrated network fabric consistent with management software and Operating Systems drivers. Based on its compatibility with integrated transceivers and Twinax cabling solutions, the N5K 5548UP-FA switch eliminates the need for expensive optical transceivers by delivering cost-effective connectivity for 10 Gigabit Ethernet to servers at the rack level.
